During the campaign I will be focusing my energy on reaching out to the voters and doing my best to have my stance on the issues be what is presented. I will not be sending out any negative mailers or campaigning in a manner that is negative.

Will you refrain from running negative ads against your opponents, and will you go on record as opposed to any PAC, SuperPAC, Public Interest Organization or other group running hit pieces targeting your opponents?
My campaign will not be running negative ads. I would oppose any third party hit piece targeting my opponents if it violated the law or was untrue.

Yes. I am interested in communicating my positive message and differentiating myself from other candidates on the issues that are important to Petaluma.
Will you refrain from running negative ads against your opponents, and will you go on record as opposed to any PAC, SuperPAC, Public Interest Organization or other group running hit pieces targeting your opponents?
I guess my answer would depend on what is meant by “hit piece”. If an independent expenditure is informing the public of an opponent’s voting record, is that a hit piece? If an opponent is distorting their own record and an opposing piece is clarifying that record, is that an attack? I think there should always be room for healthy debate on the issues. That said, all too often opposing organizations tend to get loose with facts in their attacks. Distortion is not true debate or democracy. I do not support that, nor do I participate in that kind of campaigning. I would also say, that in regards to your questions, it is rather late in the campaign to be asking this of candidates. If candidates are doing walk pieces, mailers or commercials, they have likely already created and printed them.
If a hit piece is circulated against your opponents by your campaign or another person or organization, will you commit to immediately repudiating it in all local press as well as through all social networking and other media your campaign utilizes?
Again, I need a meaning of hit piece here. If an opposing organization is providing honest fact without distortion (a voting report card on issues for example), that is their right and I would not involve myself. If a piece is unfairly framing a candidate, I would not support that and might speak out as I have done in the past.

My campaign is not running any negative ads. If there was a third party ad attacking another candidate, I would denounce it if I thought it was inaccurate or unfair, or if it violated applicable laws.
